Chief's Letter

Welcome to the Metropolitan Police Department in our Nation's Capital. As your chief, I am committed to making the District of Columbia the safest major city in America—bar none. I recognize that to achieve this goal, police officers and community members must work together like we have never worked before. This means rolling up our sleeves and openly sharing information and ideas with one another. Our website is intended to make this information exchange easier, more frequent, and more productive.

On our site, you will find a host of information about the MPDC ... with much more planned for the future. You will see how our department is working to better serve not only those who live and work in the District of Columbia, but also our friends from across the country and around the world who every year visit this beautiful and historic city. You will learn how to get in touch with the police, and how you can work with us and with your neighbors to make our communities safer and stronger. Toward this end, I would strongly encourage our residents to get involved in many of the other electronic forums—web pages, email groups, phone trees, and the like—that the community has established in our seven police districts and their individual Police Service Areas (PSAs). The MPDC site is but one of many ways we can use this powerful new technology to improve our communities.

I hope you find our site interesting and useful, and I hope you come back often, as new content and features will be added regularly. Thank you for visiting the MPDC. We welcome your feedback on improving our website and our operations in general.

Charles H. Ramsey
