CCTV –
Privacy Protections
The MPDC’s
use of CCTV is sensitive to the privacy rights and expectations
of individuals. Specific privacy protections have been written into
both the MPDC’s internal policies and the public regulations.
These protections include the following:
- The CCTV
system observes public spaces, where courts have held there is
no expectation of privacy.
- The system
is used primarily to monitor wide areas. Arbitrary or discriminatory
tracking of individuals is expressly prohibited by policy and
regulation, and could result in disciplinary action.
The system does
not use face-recognition or other biometric technologies.
