Parking Permits—Temporary Residents

If you are a temporary resident of DC and meet certain criteria, you may qualify for a reciprocity parking permit that allows you to park your car in residential areas of the District while keeping your vehicle registered in your home state.

You qualify for a reciprocity parking permit if you are one of the following:

  • A full-time student attending a college or university in DC
  • A member of Congress or on the personal staff of a member of Congress
  • US military personnel on active duty stationed in DC

Due to parking restrictions, students in Wards 2A and 2E (Georgetown area) are not eligible for reciprocity parking permits. Students in these wards must register their vehicles in the District in order to be able to park in those areas.
