Neighborhood Partnerships

Neighborhood Partnerships bring together police, residents, city agencies, and other community stakeholders. This powerful collaboration effectively tackles crime areas and disorderly conditions that attract crime and degrade quality of life in the community.

For example, a city agency partner that makes and enforces regulations and codes, such as the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, can audit businesses that may be magnets for crime and disorder. By enforcing city codes, laws, and regulations, the DCRA can close businesses that aren't in compliance. In this instance, problem business owners often come around to working with the community instead of against them when faced with the possibility of being closed down.

Once neighborhood partnerships are in place, they can explore systemic prevention approaches that deal with the more chronic, entrenched problems.
